We live in a great city!
Wellington is now widely recognized as one of the best cities in the world. I’ve played a key role in leading Wellington’s stunning transformation over the last 20 years. We are now a world centre of creativity, arts, culture, IT, and film, with excellent professional, service and educational sectors. We always top New Zealand’s quality of life surveys and have easily the best central city. It’s vibrant, easy to get around and there’s always something happening. We lead the country in environmental restoration, in resilience preparation, and in social housing provision. Far more of us walk, cycle or use public transport than in any other city – and that proportion is consistently growing. We need to progress, and in doing so also protect those things we value most, our hills, harbour, waterfront, the special character that make Wellington unique, and being able to live in an international cosmopolitan city without spending hours in traffic. To do all this we need coherent planning, foresight and leadership. Wellington is an amazing city. We have come a long long way, but our future is even brighter. Come on Wellington !
